Betta FAQ
Native Region:
Thailand.
Temperament: Community, but may be damaged by
fin nippers such as Barbs.. Usually very peaceful
with other fish, but not two male bettas.
You can only put one male Betta in any tank. Males do not like other males and this
is why they are called "FIGHTING FISH". Females can be kept together, but
should only be put into an aquarium with a male when she is heavy with eggs. In
short, keep only one male betta in a tank as a bachelor! Can be kept with
non-aggressive fish like tetras and guppies, but to protect you betta, avoid
Barbs and Cichlids, even "angelfish" as they begin to get some size.
Feeding: Staple flake foods, but
enjoy a variety including thawed frozen adult brine shrimp, bloodworms, newly hatched brine shrimp nauplii and
other small live foods.
Temperature Range:
75-84°F.
pH:
6-8
dGH: 25
Potential Size:
3"
Sexing: Males have bright vivid
colors and much larger fins.

General Comments: Very beautiful and popular
fish that is easy care. Many strains are available. Easy to take
care of, because it comes from rice paddies in S.E. Asia, thus is very tolerant
to a wide range of water conditions. However, changing about 10% of their
water (aquarium and 25% -50% weekly for bowls), will keep
your betta healthy, colorful, and active.
